APGENCO hits record 6,160 MW Output
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO) achieved a historic milestone by recording its highest-ever power generation since inception on Thursday. It signals improved capacity to meet the state's growing electricity demand ahead of the peak summer season.According to the energy department, AP Genco recorded 6160 MW of power generation and 5730 MW ex-bus generation, marking the highest generation level in the corporation's history. Officials said the achievement came at a crucial time as electricity demand in the state continued to surge with the onset of summer.Energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar patted the senior officials of AP Genco and Andhra Pradesh Power Development Company Limited (APPDCL). He reviewed the preparedness of the power utilities with the senior officials through a virtual conference and asked them to focus on ensuring sufficient generation capacity, keeping in view the anticipated spike in power consumption in the coming months. Officials said the state's power utilities were able to meet the rising demand while maintaining stable transmission operations, which helped sustain uninterrupted supply to domestic, industrial and commercial consumers.
Engineers and technical teams across generating stations were credited with maintaining high operational efficiency and ensuring continuous generation.Amid projections of higher power demand this summer, the minister directed the utilities to remain fully prepared, particularly in view of the possible impact of El NiƱo weather conditions, which could further increase electricity consumption due to higher temperatures. "AP Genco achieved this all-time record power generation under the dynamic leadership of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. I wholeheartedly appreciate the efforts of the power utilities," the minister said, urging officials to maintain the momentum and maximise generation during the summer months. He stressed that maintaining high levels of generation will be critical to ensure uninterrupted supply across the state, particularly as demand from agriculture, industry and households is expected to increase sharply. The minister instructed officials to closely monitor demand trends and make advance arrangements to meet peak loads.
