AP signs MoU to boost science communication, evidence-based policymaking
Vijayawada: In a major push to position Andhra Pradesh as a hub for science, innovation, and policy research, the Science City of Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) has partnered with the CSIR–National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR), New Delhi, to advance science communication and strengthen evidence-based policymaking in the state.A strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on Monday at the Secretariat, will pave the way for collaborative research in science, technology, and innovation (STI) policy while enhancing public engagement with science. The partnership comes as the state government pursues ambitious plans to establish a world-class science city with support from the Centre. The proposed facility will integrate science centres, museums, innovation hubs, research facilities, and experiential learning spaces—aimed at nurturing scientific temper and attracting investments in emerging technology sectors.Special chief secretary MT Krishna Babu said the MoU will significantly strengthen science communication and enhance awareness through structured training programmes, workshops, and research-driven initiatives. "It will also support evidence-based policymaking and facilitate meaningful knowledge exchange among students, scholars, and researchers," he noted.Under the agreement, both institutions will undertake joint research projects, publish studies, and organise seminars, workshops, and conferences for researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders.
The collaboration will also focus on educational programmes, mentoring, and promoting scientific journals and outreach initiatives aligned with global development goals.CSIR–NIScPR director Geetha Vani Rayasam said the partnership will deepen science communication efforts while advancing STI policy research. "It will enable academic and research support from school to university level and strengthen outreach programmes that promote scientific awareness and innovation culture," she said.SCAP CEO Venkateswarlu Kesineni highlighted the state's long-term vision, noting that the collaboration brings national-level expertise to Andhra Pradesh. "We are planning to develop a major science city that will serve as a platform for innovation, research, and knowledge dissemination with support from the Centre," he said. The MoU was signed by Kesineni Venkat and Geetha Vani Rayasam in the presence of Krishna Babu, with CSIR scientists Dr Yogesh Suman and Dr NK Prasanna also attending.
