Vijayawada: In a significant boost to the state's healthcare system, the AP govt has issued appointment orders to 482 doctors on a regular basis through the Directorate of Public Health (DPH). Health minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav announced that the entire recruitment process, including counselling and posting, was conducted online to ensure transparency and efficiency. The selected candidates have been directed to join their duties within 15 days.
The recruitment drive stems from a notification issued last year to fill 636 vacancies, including medical officers in primary health centres and tutors in teaching hospitals. Nearly 5,000 applications were received from MBBS-qualified candidates. After scrutiny and adherence to reservation norms, the selection list was released on March 11.
As part of the process, candidates were allowed to submit their preferences online between Monday morning and Tuesday night. Following requests from applicants, the deadline was extended. Out of 611 posts (excluding sports quota), 482 candidates exercised their options and were subsequently issued appointment orders in a completely paperless manner.
According to the director of public health Dr Padmavathi Kadapa district received the highest number of postings (52), followed by Anantapur (34), Srikakulam (31), Kakinada (29) and Kurnool (27).
Several other districts, including Palnadu, NTR, Krishna and Prakasam, also received a substantial number of allocations. The remaining 19 posts under sports and ex-servicemen categories will be filled shortly, officials said.
Earlier, in Dec 2024, the DPH filled 392 medical officer posts under a separate notification, further strengthening the state's public healthcare workforce.
