Vijayawada: The chief judicial magistrate court in Vijayawada on Wednesday sentenced a 76-year-old man to four years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 in connection with a grievous assault case that happened in 2019 under the Kothapeta police station limits.
Chief judicial magistrate judge justice Radha Rani pronounced the verdict, convicting the accused, identified as Kokkilagadda Jeevartnam, after he was found guilty of the crime.

According to the police, a case under Sections 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC was registered against the accused at Kothapet police station for critically attacking the complainant on the head using a stick at his residence in the Ambapuram area in October 2019.
According to the police, the accused earlier quarrelled with the complainant over a land dispute. Though both families reportedly reached a compromise in the presence of village elders, the accused allegedly continued to bear a grudge.
On the day of the incident, while the complainant was washing clothes near his residence, the accused reportedly attacked him from behind with a bamboo stick, inflicting serious head injuries.
Following the complaint, the Kothapet police arrested the accused and subsequently produced him before the court.
