Vijayawada: Guntur range inspector general of police Sarvasreshta Thripati ordered the suspension of two police officers in Nellore district for alleged negligence in monitoring a repeat offender who later became involved in a serious criminal case.
The suspended officers are CI Ravi Nayak and SI Prasad Reddy. The action was taken after a review of a recent case registered at Gudur police station, where a youth allegedly attempted to assault a minor girl.

Police officials said the accused was earlier listed as a suspect at the Muthukur police station and was involved in theft-related offences. A suspect sheet was reportedly opened against him, which requires periodic surveillance by local police.
However, authorities found that the accused was not properly monitored for more than a year. Officials believe the lack of surveillance may have contributed to the accused continuing his criminal activities.
After examining the circumstances, IG Thripati concluded that there was a lapse in supervision by the concerned officers. Based on the findings, disciplinary action was taken, and both officers were placed under suspension.
Police sources said the move was intended to enforce accountability within the department and ensure that suspects with criminal histories are closely monitored. A departmental inquiry into the matter is currently underway.
