Varanasi: Police teams raided seven locations across Ghazipur and Mau districts on Sunday in search of Afsha Ansari, the widow of late gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari.
Ghazipur SP Iraj Raja said Afsha, who carries a Rs 50,000 bounty in both districts, is wanted on gangster charges. Raids were carried out at seven possible hideouts in each district, targeting the residences of Mansoor Hamad Gaus, Meenuddin Lalji Yadav, Taiya Palki, Arvind Kumar Singh, Umesh Singh, and Shyam Lal Sonkar.
Although she was not found at any of the locations, efforts to gather information through electronic surveillance and other intelligence have been intensified to apprehend Afsha at the earliest, he added.
A lookout circular has also been issued against her. “Our teams are continuously searching for her at different locations, and today’s action was part of that ongoing effort,” the SP said.
Raja said further raids are planned at other probable hideouts, and authorities said all associates and members of Mukhtar’s IS-191 gang will face strict action.
