VARANASI: A man was shot dead after a dispute over applying colour to a person from another community on Holi took a serious turn in Chadipur village of Ghazipur on Sunday.Camping in the village, ASP (City) Rakesh Kumar Mishra said that a heavy police force reached the village and held many members of the accused's family for interrogation after the shooting of Aasmuhammad (55) with a licenced gun.Police lodged an FIR based on the complaint of the deceased's family after sending the body for a postmortem, he said.The Karanda police station in-charge, Ashok Kumar, reported that a dispute broke out between two community groups during Holi celebrations on March 4 over kids playing with colours. Police stepped in and calmed things down.The dispute reignited on Sunday, sparking a fresh confrontation when Aasmuhammad and his family approached the accused's residence and began hurling abuses. The situation escalated when the accused pulled out a licensed gun and fired at Aasmuhammad.Aasmuhammad was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Karanda police swung into action, alerting seniors and deploying a heavy force to maintain order.
