Trade unions observe ‘Black Day’
Trichy: Several central trade unions observed ‘Black Day' in Trichy on Wednesday to protest against the Union govt's ‘anti-worker' labour laws. Protesters wore black badges while reporting to work and conducted a demonstration near the electricity board office at Thennur by waving black flags.Workers from various sectors such as transport, electricity, railways, and public sector undertakings representing different trade unions, including LPF, CITU, AITUC, HMS, UTUC, LLF, AICCTU, INTUC, and SKM, took part in the protest. The protesters were led by CITU district secretary S Rengarajan. They raised slogans highlighting the erosion of the eight-hour workday, the absence of minimum wages, the lack of incentives, and the denial of the right to join or form a union. They strongly condemned the move to treat workers who raise demands as criminals.
