Student who followed Vijay’s van from Trichy dies
Trichy: A 19-year-old student who was injured in an accident while following TVK leader Vijay's van from Trichy on March 4 has died. He succumbed to injuries at a private hospital in Trichy on Monday. Police said P Vignesh from Keelakalkandarkottai, Trichy, was studying third-year BCom in a city college.On March 4, Vijay arrived at the Trichy airport around 9.40am, boarded a van to Ayyasamipatti near Sengipatti in Thanjavur district, where he addressed a gathering of his party members. Vijay's van travelled along the Trichy-Thanjavur highway. Several people on motorcycles followed it, attempting to catch a glimpse of the actor. As his vehicle passed Sengipatti around 11am, a motorcycle following it collided with the rear of a police vehicle.Vignesh, who was driving the motorcycle, suffered head injuries, while the pillion rider, Arun, 20, suffered injures on his left leg. They were immediately rushed to a private hospital in Thanjavur. Vignesh was initially kept in the intensive care unit of the hospital before being transferred to another private hospital in Trichy on March 20.
According to Vignesh's family, he had told them he was going to college on the day but went to see Vijay. They only learned about the incident later. Vignesh's father Pandiyan runs a small milk business.Police earlier registered a case under sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relate to rash or negligent driving and endangering human life. They later added Section 106(1) in the case for causing death by negligence.
