Seepage in water pipeline disrupts traffic near Main Guard Gate

Trichy: A major seepage in Trichy corporation's drinking water supply network on Wednesday disrupted public movement for a while near the Main guard gate junction. Corporation officials said the pipeline burst during the trial run of the 24X7 drinking water project around 1pm on the main pipeline carrying Cauvery water from the Kambarasampettai collector well on the city outskirts to the Marakkadai overhead tank near Gandhi Market. Officials attributed the cause of the burst to a pressure difference in the distribution. A portion of the West Boulevard road junction was damaged as a fountain of drinking water erupted about 15ft high from the ground. Traffic police personnel partially cordoned off the damaged road and regulated the traffic."Rectification and restoration work will be completed soon. Such bursts are common while conducting a trial run and commissioning a new drinking water supply project. Adequate modifications will be made to ensure seamless water supply," a corporation official said.
