Trichy: The special Trichy-Tambaram Express train will become a permanent fixure from March 1, a railway notification said.
The special trains (06190/06191) will be regularised and have new numbers (16807/16808). From March 1, the train will run for five days a week, excluding Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Train 16808 departs from Trichy at 5.35am and arrives at Tambaram at 12.30pm. In the return direction, train 16807 leaves Tambaram at 3.30pm and reaches Trichy at 10.40pm.
The train will stop at Tiruverumbur, Thanjavur, Papanasam, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Sirkazhi, Chidambaram, Tirupadripulyur, Panruti, Villupuram, Tindivanam, Melmaruvathur, and Chengalpattu.
The service will benefit residents of Trichy, BHEL employees in Thiruverumbur, and the farming communities in delta districts by providing easy access to Chennai outskirts. "The upgrades would greatly benefit the people of Trichy," Trichy MP Durai Vaiko said.
The train will also assist passengers from Chennai and surrounding areas who wish to undertake pilgrimages to temples in the delta districts.
