Pedestrian killed in lorry hit near Nagamangalam

Trichy: A 34-year-old man died after being hit by a lorry while attempting to cross the road near Nagamangalam on the Madurai–Trichy national highway.The deceased, C Vellaisamy of Oliyamangalam in Pudukkottai district, was struck by the vehicle late on Friday night. The accident occurred opposite a private hospital. Police said the lorry, driven by John Martin, 33, of Pudukkottai, hit the pedestrian. Vellaisamy sustained severe head and facial injuries and was rushed to the Government Hospital in Trichy. He later succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at MGMGH in the early hours of March 28. After postmortem, the body was handed over to relatives. Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
