Trichy: District collector Pratik Dayal flagged off a mobile food analysis laboratory vehicle at the collectorate on Tuesday.‘Food Safety on Wheels’ (FSW), launched by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), will travel across the district conducting on-the-spot food testing and creating awareness about safe food practices. The vehicle can be used detect food adulteration, identify unauthorised colouring agents, and carry out basic microbiological examinations to assess food quality and safety.The initiative is intended to bridge gaps in food testing infrastructure and extend services directly to the public. The mobile laboratory will be deployed at markets, festivals, public gatherings and other high-footfall locations to facilitate rapid testing and awareness campaigns. It will also visit schools and colleges, particularly in rural areas, to educate students on food safety and hygiene.
