Maintenance work to be taken up at Srirangam’s Yatri Nivas
Trichy: The public works department (PWD) has floated tenders for undertaking maintenance work at the Yatri Nivas in Srirangam at an estimated cost of Rs 8.1 crore.PWD sources said renovation of toilets, texture painting, repair of chambers, improvements to dormitories, and upgrade to water supply as well as sanitary facilities will be undertaken. The move comes amid growing concerns over the poor upkeep of the facility, which provides budget-friendly accommodation for pilgrims visiting the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple.Constructed at a cost of Rs 47 crore on about 6.4 acres on Panchakarai Road, the Yatri Nivas was inaugurated in 2015 by former chief minister J Jayalalithaa. The facility is managed by the Hindu religious and charitable endowments department. The complex comprises four dormitories, 95 rooms, 24 cottages, nine shops and a restaurant, with a capacity to accommodate nearly 900 pilgrims. The room tariffs range from Rs 500 to Rs 1,750. Officials said the work will improve amenities and enhance the overall experience of visitors.
