Karur: Residents of Chintalavadi village in Krishnarayapuram taluk staged a symbolic protest on Sunday, cutting a cake to mark the "third anniversary" of an overhead drinking water tank that remains unused.
Villagers, mostly women, gathered near the Narasingapuram Pillaiyar temple with empty pots and raised slogans demanding that the facility be made operational.

A 30,000-litre overhead tank was built in the village at a cost of ₹8 lakh under the Centre's Jal Jeevan Mission nearly three years ago. However, residents said it has not been connected for supply, forcing them to rely on alternative and often unreliable water sources.
The protest, organised on International Women's Day to underline the burden on women, saw participants place empty pots around a table before cutting a cake to highlight the delay.
The agitation was led by Tamil Farmers' Protection Association district secretary Karthikeyan. Villagers urged the district administration to take immediate steps to connect the tank and ensure regular drinking water supply.
