Trichy: Four people were arrested on Saturday for bungling and stealing gold jewellery worth several lakhs from a house near Kooni Bazaar in Trichy.
The theft occurred at the house of S Rajasekar, 29, in Bhima Nagar in Trichy on Friday. Rajasekar works in a transport company.
According to sources, the family went to Palani in Dindigul district on May 29. When they returned the next night, they realized that their house was locked from the inside. The family informed the police. After the police arrived, the family realized that their house had been burgled and around 18 sovereigns of gold jewellery were missing from the house.
A case was registered at Palakkarai police station under BNS Sections 331-4 (trespass) and 305 (theft) based on the complaint from the house owner. The police began their investigation based on the complaint and the available surveillance camera records.
On Saturday, Inspector Basil Prem Anand and his team arrested four people in connection with the theft - P Sathish,20, R Rahul, 25, C Vetriselvam, 20, and G Naveenthakrishnan, 28, from Kooni Bazaar. The accused were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. An investigation is in progress.

The burglary took place at the residence of S Rajasekar, 29, a transport company employee, in Bhima Nagar on Friday. According to police, Rajasekar and his family had gone to Palani in Dindigul district on May 29. When they returned the following night, they found their house locked from the inside and alerted the police.
Upon entering, they discovered that around 18 sovereigns of gold jewellery had been stolen.
Palakkarai police registered a case under BNS Sections 331-4 (trespass) and 305 (theft) based on Rajasekar's complaint. Investigators reviewed CCTV footage and other leads, leading to the arrest of four suspects on Saturday—P Sathish, 20, R Rahul, 25, C Vetriselvam, 20, and G Naveenthakrishnan, 28— all residents of Kooni Bazaar.
The accused were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.
