Group waylays students by mistake, damages their car
Trichy: In a road rage and mistaken identity near Ponmalai in Trichy, a group of men waylaid a car with college students, damaged it and threatened them with dire consequences. A Melvin Sham, 20, from Thirunagar, studies in a private college near Trichy. He and his friends were returning home in his SUV after a college event on Friday. As Melvin was driving his car near Ponmalai New Bridge around 11.15pm, a group of people in motorcycles waylaid the car. They abused Melvin and threw stones at the SUV, damaging windshield and side windows. They threatened Melvin and his friends with dire consequences. When Melvin and his friends stepped out of the vehicle, the gang left the spot. Taken aback, Melvin lodged a complaint to the Golden Rock police on Saturday. Police registered a case under sections 296 (b), 324 (4), 324 (5), 126 (2), 351 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for verbal abuse, property damage, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation.During an investigation, police identified one of the attackers and found out that the gang mistook Melvin and his friends for others.
