Trichy: Four people, including two juveniles, were arrested near Trichy for cutting a birthday cake with a machete, filming the act, and uploading it as a reel on social media.
The adult accused were identified as P Manikanda Boopathy, 24, and T Thiruppathi, 25, both from Kodumbapatti village in Marungapuri taluk. Both are working as cooks.
According to police, on April 8, Boopathy celebrated his birthday with friends from Kodumbapatti. During the celebration, he cut a cake using a machete in a public place, while Thiruppathi and others recorded the act. They also posed with the machete.
The men created a couple of reels from the incident and uploaded them on social media. The video went viral and soon came to the notice of the police.
Following directions from Trichy superintendent of police S Selvanagarathinam, the Valanadu police registered a case against them under sections 20 and 25(1-A) of the Arms Act for offences related to carrying prohibited arms and carrying arms under suspicious circumstances.
Police arrested Boopathy, Thiruppathi, and the two minors on April 9. They were produced before a magistrate. The two juveniles were released on bail, while the other two were remanded in judicial custody.
In a reel shared by the Trichy district police, Boopathy and Thiruppathi apologised for their actions and urged the public not to imitate them.
