Trichy: Former MLA M Rajasekaran, the AMMK candidate backed by the NDA, filed his nomination for the Trichy West Assembly constituency on Thursday.
Rajasekaran submitted his papers before returning officer and RDO Salai Dhavalavan. He is set to contest against DMK minister and sitting MLA K N Nehru.
A native of Thirupparaithurai, Rajasekaran had earlier been elected from the now-defunct Thottiyam constituency in Trichy district, winning on a Congress ticket by a narrow margin of 53 votes. He later contested unsuccessfully from Perambalur in the 2014 (Congress) and 2019 (AMMK) elections.
He was accompanied by AMMK leaders P Senthilnathan and Sarubala Thondaiman, along with AIADMK and BJP functionaries.
Across Trichy district, 24 nominations were filed for seven assembly constituencies on Thursday. While no fresh nominations were filed in Thuraiyur and Manapparai segments, Trichy East saw the highest number of filings, including one by TVK leader and actor Vijay.
Meanwhile, TVK's V P Mathiazhagan filed his nomination from Karur, while AIADMK candidate S Divya filed papers for the Krishnarayapuram constituency.
