Trichy: A 13-year-old boy died hours after allegedly getting into a physical altercation with another student during a volleyball game in a village near Thuraiyur.
The deceased was identified as Selvam, son of Saravanan, a farmer from Nadutheru area in Nallavannipatti village under Pulivalam police limits. He was a Class 8 student of the govt higher secondary school in Karattampatti. Police sources said Selvam was playing volleyball with other children in the locality on Thursday evening when an argument broke out between him and Bharathi, 15, a Class 9 student from the same village. During the argument, the two allegedly assaulted each other with hand before bystanders intervened and separated them.
Selvam later returned home and informed his parents about the incident.
Sources said after some time, he began vomiting and lost consciousness. His parents rushed him to a private hospital in Thuraiyur, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following information, a police team led by Jeeyapuram DSP Kathiravan rushed to the spot. The body was sent to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Govt Hospital in Trichy for postmortem examination. Pulivalam police registered a case and detained Bharathi for inquiry. Police said the exact cause of death will be known only after the postmortem report, and investigations are under way from multiple angles.
