Russia has welcomed the United States’ 30-day waiver allowing countries to purchase Russian oil stranded at sea, amid the war in the Middle East. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the move would help stabilize global energy markets, noting that the exception applies only to oil already loaded before March 12. Peskov also emphasized that the U.S. has no plans to lift broader oil sanctions on Russia. The temporary waiver comes as part of President Donald Trump’s energy strategy to stabilize fuel prices following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran that disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stressed that the measure is narrowly targeted and won’t significantly benefit the Russian government, whose energy revenues come mainly from taxes at extraction.
