Wife claims she caught Kerala minister in ‘compromising situation’, says staff tried to seize phone
T'PURAM: Bindu Menon, wife of K B Ganesh Kumar, publicly levelled allegations against the transport minister, claiming she found him in a compromising situation at his residence in Valakom near Kottarakkara on Saturday and that she sought police assistance following the incident.
Menon told a TV news channel that she found Kumar in a "very bad situation" at the house and that the incident was difficult even to describe. She said she took photographs at the time and that she still possessed the images as evidence.
According to her, when she tried to leave the house, the minister's staff allegedly prevented her from stepping outside and attempted to seize her mobile phone. The door was shut to stop her from leaving. She approached the police on the advice of her relative R Sreelakha, former DGP and BJP councillor. Menon alleged that soon after she called police, the woman who was at the house, was taken away in a car. After she left, Kumar reportedly entered a room and locked the door. The police reached the scene but they claimed they could not do anything and left.
Menon said she initially decided not to respond publicly but chose to speak out after the minister made remarks about her in front of the media. According to her, some members of the minister's staff apologised and said that "sir made a mistake" while attempts were also made to reach a compromise.
Menon also named two aides — Shanthan and Pradeep — alleging that Shanthan tried to take away her phone and escorted the woman out in a car while Pradeep closed the door. She said she was forced to clarify the matter after being described as "mentally unstable".
She added that problems existed in their marriage for several years and that disputes arose earlier over the names of several women. She said Sreelakha intervened in 2019 in an attempt to resolve the issues.
Kumar, who responded on this earlier in the day, said he was in love and that others should not interfere in his personal matters. He also remarked that he had "not five but 5,000 loves" and suggested that those who were mentally disturbed should seek police assistance.
He said such accusations surfaced against him earlier as well and described the current controversy as a political move timed with the approaching elections. He said the issue was not one that concerned the people of Kerala.
Kumar said that whether the allegations against him were true or false, they related to his personal life and that others had no right to interfere in the matter. "Love is not a crime. Everyone has love in their life and it will continue," he said, adding that he was a good public representative and never was involved in corruption.
She said she already informed chief minister's daughter (Veena Vijayan) about everything.
KSU vice-president Yadu Krishnan lodged a complaint with DGP, alleging that the minister and his staff attacked his wife who saw the minister sharing bed with another woman and called 112 to report it. However, the complaint states that no further action was taken. Krishnan requested that a case be registered and an investigation conducted against the minister and the involved staff.
