Railway launches Swachhata Hi Seva campaign
Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram division of Southern Railway launched Swachhata Hi Seva – 2025 on Wednesday. The fortnight-long special cleanliness campaign is being observed from Sept 17 to Oct 2. The theme of this year's campaign is Swachhotsav – celebrating cleanliness and community participation.Divisional railway manager of Thiruvananthapuram division Divyakant Chandrakar inaugurated the campaign at Central railway station by administering Swachhata Pledge to the staff. In his address, he emphasised the focus on transforming unclean spots, ensuring clean platforms, tracks and trains, promoting eco-friendly celebrations and linking cleanliness with public health and welfare. A special programme was held at the station in association with National Service Scheme volunteers of University College and students of Karthika Thirunal Govt VHSS for Girls, Manacaud along with railway staff. The inauguration of a ‘waste-to-art' installation made from recycled plastic bottles, set up as a selfie point to spread awareness on recycling plastics, was also held on the occasion. Special cleanliness drives were also launched at railway stations, offices, depots and field units under the Thiruvananthapuram division.
Swachhata pledge was administered across various establishments. During the fortnight, the activities will include intensive cleanliness drives at stations, offices and railway colonies, waste segregation and scientific waste management initiatives, sanitation and hygiene awareness programmes for passengers and staff and involvement of schools, colleges, NGOs, Scouts & Guides, and local communities. The campaign will focus on a specific cleanliness theme, covering all stations, trains, offices and field units across the division.
