THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state started witnessing the post-Onam surge in the Covid-19 case load with 2,479 positive
cases on Friday. The day also saw the highest number of recoveries in a day 2,716. After the lesser number of tests in the past three days, the state tested 36,310 samples in the last 24 hours.
Local transmission continues to be the worrying factor with 2,349 of the new cases acquiring the virus through contacts.
A major cluster in the state has been reported at armed reserve battalion camp of the state police at Thrissur where 60 personnel have been tested positive. Apart from this, 34 health workers have also been infected through contacts. Among the new cases, 59 had come from abroad and 71 from other states. The state recorded 11 more deaths and the total death toll has now reached 327. The deceased are Rafel, 78, and Shibin, 39, of Thrissur, Amina, 95, and Mohammed, 76, of Malappuram, Abdul Rehman, 60, of Kasaragod, Vasudevan, 83, and Santhoshkumar, 45, of Kannur, Bushra Beevi, 61, of Kollam, Shabariyar, 65, Ravidas, 69, and Sulaja, 56, of Thiruvananthapuram.
Thiruvananthapuram had the most number of cases, with 477 testing positive, which was followed by Ernakulam (274), Kollam (248), Kasarsgod (236), Thrissur (204), Malappuram and Kottayam (178 each), Kasaragod (167), Pathanamthitta (141), Kannur (115), Alappuzha (106), Wayanad (84), Palakkad (42) and
Idukki (29). Among the 2,349 locally transmitted cases, the source of 149 are not known. Thiruvananthapuram reported the highest number of locally transmitted cases 463.
At present there are a total of 1,97,937 people under quarantine across the state, with 17,194 of them admitted to various hospitals. As many as 1,750 people were admitted to hospitals on the day. Till now, a total of 17,92,330 samples have been sent for testing.
