Surat: A 21-year-old mentally challenged woman was allegedly gangraped by four persons in Sachin area on Thursday. Three of the four accused were arrested on Saturday.

Following intervention of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS), the woman approached police and lodged complaint in Sachin police station on Saturday. Police allegedly did not register the complaint on Thursday when the woman approached the police along with her mother.

Police arrested Alok Rajput, Wasim Ghantiwala and Ismail Patel on Saturday. Manjro alias Shahrukh is still absconding. The accused had abducted the woman when she was walking on road in Hojiwala Industrial Estate on Thursday. She was pushed into an auto rickshaw and taken behind a warehouse, where she was allegedly raped by the four accused.

Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) convener Dharmik Malaviya went to Sachin police station on Saturday on coming to know about the alleged gangrape incident. "Police was not registering the complaint and the family was given Rs 15,000 to avoid registering complaint. They had come to police station on Thursday and were forcibly sent back after giving money. Only after we intervened the complaint was registered," claimed Malaviya.

PAAS volunteers had approached the Sachin police and created pressure on police to act. They claimed that police also tried to delay medical examination of the girl and did not cordon the spot where the woman was allegedly raped.

Despite several attempts M H Shaikh, police inspector, Sachin police station was not available for his comments.
