Surat shocker: 24-year-old woman techie collapses on stage, dies of heart attack

SURAT: A 24-year-old IT professional from Ahmedabad died after collapsing on stage moments after concluding her address at an IT event in Surat on Sunday evening.

Zeel Thakkar, a resident of Raipur and a web developer by profession, had come to participate in WordCamp Surat 2025 held at Shree Swami Atmanand Saraswati Institute of Technology (SSASIT) in Kapodra.



Around 5 pm, Thakkar stepped on stage to represent her company. Moments after finishing her talk, she collapsed. She was rushed to a hospital but could not be revived.

Preliminary findings indicate she suffered a cardiac arrest.

Kapodra police inspector MB Ausura told TOI: "The postmortem suggests cardiac arrest, but the exact cause will be confirmed after the forensic analysis. Viscera samples have been sent for further examination."

Thakkar, who held an MCA degree, had reportedly reached Surat around 4 am on Sunday and was at the venue by 9 am. She had been working with an IT firm in Ahmedabad for the last two years and regularly represented her company at tech events across cities.

The event was attended by a large number of IT professionals and students.
