Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Waqf Board on Friday submitted before the Shimla district court that Latif Mohammad was nominated as the president of the disputed Sanjauli mosque’s committee in 2006 and continues to hold the post.
The court on Nov 18 had directed the board to clear its stand through an affidavit that under what authority Mohammad and others had consented before the municipal commissioner’s court to demolish the top three floors of the mosque allegedly constructed beyond the permissible limit.
After the board presented a 2006 document pertaining to the nomination of Mohammad as Sanjauli mosque committee’s president, All Himachal Muslim Organisation (AHMO) council Vishwa Bhushan questioned how Mohammad could continue for so long on the post as the Waqf Act provides five-year tenure to a mosque committee.
