In logistics index chart, Meghalaya in ‘aspirer’ category

Shillong: Meghalaya has been put in the category of an “aspirer” in the logistics index chart 2023, according to the “Logistics Ease Across Different State (LEADS) 2023” released by the Union minister of commerce and industry, consumer affairs, food and public distribution, and textiles, Piyush Goyal on Saturday.The index is an indicator of the efficiency of logistical services necessary for promoting exports and economic growth and aims at enhancing focus on improving logistics performance across states, which is essential for improving the country’s trade and reducing transaction costs.As per the fifth LEADS report, Meghalaya’s performance assessment is below the average of northeast group for most of the indicators across pillars, except for the availability of packaging facilities.The report suggested collaboration with industry stakeholders to develop a comprehensive, data-driven logistics master plan to enhance infrastructure across the state.“This plan would serve as a framework for identifying existing gaps and strategies to implement the proposed interventions. State may also undertake an evaluation of the feasibility and demand for developing logistics infrastructure at Mahendraganj to facilitate cargo transportation to Bangladesh which could help reduce traffic congestion at ICP Tetrapole,” it suggested.Except for the quality of transport services, the state stands below the average performance in the group under the assessment for all the logistic service indicators.“The state should enhance mobile connectivity across the region to improve the availability of track and trace services. Additionally, the state should prioritise addressing skill gaps by collaborating with private stakeholders to devise and develop logistics-related training programs and courses to provide industry-ready manpower,” the report said.Moreover, assessments for all the operating and regulatory environment indicators show that except for grievance redressal the state stands below the average of the group.Pointing out that Meghalaya is in the process of finalisation of its logistics policy, the report said, to enhance the logistics sector, the state could explore measures to encourage regular dialogues with private stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and education about various initiatives undertaken.

13 states, UTs among 'achievers' in logistics performance index: DPIIT report

Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Sikkim, and Tripura are among the 13 states and Union Territories categorized as "achievers" in the logistics index chart 2023. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have slipped to "aspirers" and "fast movers" categories. Steps taken by Sikkim and Tripura helped them move up to the "achievers" category. The report ranks states based on their logistics ecosystem and highlights challenges faced by stakeholders. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal unveiled the fifth LEADS 2023 report, emphasizing the role of the logistics sector in India's economy.

Logistics and supply chain workshop gives insight into newly launched Bengal's logistics policy

The Technical Education Training and Skill Development Department of the Government of West Bengal organized the inaugural Sectoral Workshop on Logistics and Supply Chain. The workshop, inaugurated by HK Dwivedi, Chief Secretary of the Government of West Bengal, drew the participation of key officials and over 100 leading industries and experts. A significant highlight was the launch of the West Bengal Logistics Policy 2023. Attendees were briefed on the Utkarsh Bangla programme and the workshop will lead to the formation of a Sectoral Advisory Committee for skill development and employment initiatives.
