Shillong: Since Friday, Shillong and other parts of the state have been hit by heavy and intermittent showers, leading to waterlogging from certain low lying areas in the capital. The mercury too has dipped, rendering a winter touch to the weather.
At a meeting, chaired by commissioner and secretary in-charge of revenue and disaster management, Sanjay Goyal, the state government on Friday reviewed the preparedness for the upcoming
monsoon season.
“The normal date for monsoon is in the first week of June. We are well prepared in terms of the upcoming season,” Goyal told reporters after chairing a state level coordination committee meeting.
The meeting was attended by officials from different departments, including health, PWD, PHE, SDRF, civil defence, IMD, education, besides deputy commissioners who are in-charge of relief operations in their respective districts.
Goyal said around Rs 20 crore has been given to the deputy commissioners to handle any kind of eventuality.
