Guv unveils monoliths outside Raj Bhavan on Meghalaya Day

Shillong: On the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of the statehood day of Meghalaya, governor Phagu Chauhan unveiled ‘Ki Mawbynna’ or traditional monoliths erected outside the main gates of the Raj Bhavan in Shillong on Sunday in commemoration of 150 years of the iconic Governor’s House in the city.The governor also inaugurated a tree house constructed on the sprawling lawns of the Raj Bhavan, adding to its majestic beauty.The unveiling was witnessed by the officers and staff of the Raj Bhavan led by the commissioner and secretary to the Governor, BDR Tiwari.“After the Independence of India, this symbol of the British Raj, in gradual transformation, became the symbol of a vibrant democracy, and ever since it has been the residence of the governors of the state,” a Raj Bhavan communique said on Sunday.CM Conrad K Sangma greeted the people on the occasion of Meghalaya Day.

Raj Bhavan to hold decision on MLC seats

Governor Tamilisai Soundarajan has decided not to take action on the governments proposal to fill the vacant MLC seats under the governors quota. The decision is pending the Telangana high court's ruling on the writ petitions filed by Dasoju Sravan Kumar and K Satyanarayana, who were nominated by the previous government and had their nominations rejected by the governor.
