Shillong: The Border Security Force, Meghalaya Frontier on Monday seized 10,000 kg of sugar near Bholaganj in East Khasi Hills district.
The consignment was being smuggled to Bangladesh. Close to the international border, the security personnel also apprehended two Indian nationals in connection with the seizure.
“Based on specific information, the
BSF identified and intercepted a truck loaded with the sugar.
Upon questioning, the driver and co-driver failed to produce any valid documents pertaining to the consignment,” a spokesperson at the BSF headquarters in Shillong said on Tuesday.
“The seizure, along with the apprehended individuals, have been handed over to the Customs office at Bholaganj for further legal proceedings,” the spokesperson said.
Earlier this month, the BSF had intercepted a vehicle, carrying 13,000 kg of sugar, which was being smuggled to Bangladesh.
Two persons from Assam’s Karimganj district were apprehended near the Kuliang bordering area in East Jaintia Hills district.
The vehicle was coming from Kalain in Assam’s Cachar district and was heading towards the Kuliang bordering area.
