Youths duped with fake job offers at Bokaro airport

Bokaro: Even before the Bokaro Airport is yet to become operational, fraudsters become active and started cheating youngsters on the pretext of providing jobs. Local AAI officials said the airport office routinely witnessed youths coming to obtain their “offer letters” only to realise that they have been cheated.Appealing to the people not to fall prey to such fraudsters, the officials said there is no vacancy announced for the airport as of now by the AAI. “Moreover, AAI only announces vacancies through its website or newspapers. People should remain alert, giving money or depending on any information related to jobs from others is a risk,” AAI Bokaro project manager Priya Singh said.Singh said several youths visited the AAI office at the Bokaro Airport recently seeking job offer letters. When they were informed that no such vacancy exists, they narrated their ordeal and realised that they were duped, she added.The fraudsters charged fees ranging from Rs 800 to Rs 1,500 for filling up the forms for the job offers. On March 27, two youths came to the airport to collect their offer letters. After talking to the officers and personnel, they came to know that they have become victims.The modus operandi of the fraudsters is to float websites in the names of many well-known companies related to the aviation sector and advertised job vacancies along with phone numbers of fake human resource departments. They have also given eligibility criteria like asking for zero to three years of experience for the job advertised. When the job aspirants called the numbers, they were told to fill up forms by paying initial money and asked for their resumé.However, after taking the money for the form, the numbers do not pick up the calls from the candidates.Notably, the expansion work of Bokaro Airport is in the final stage and it is yet to obtain a DGCA licence to operate commercial flights.
