Woman Dies of Suffocation in Chatra After Lighting Fire Indoors to Stay Warm

Chatra: A woman died of suffocation in her sleep and her husband fell critically ill after the couple lit a fire inside their closed room to beat cold. The incident took place at Kolhadih village in Chatra district on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, police said. The deceased was identified as Sapna Devi (22). Vikas Kumar (25) is admitted at Sadar Hospital, Chatra. He is out of danger. Dr Uttam Kumar of Sadar Hospital said, “Preliminary findings suggest oxygen depletion and smoke inhalation due to the fire in the closed room. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report.”
