Ranchi: DGP Tadasha Mishra on Thursday asked the SPs of seven districts to step up police action against illegal poppy planters. The DGP was reviewing the status of poppy cultivation with the SPs of Ranchi, Chatra, Palamu, West Singbhum , Hazaribag , Latehar , Saraikela-Kharsawan and Khunti districts.
The main agenda of the meeting was data of poppy crop destruction in 2025, status of cases registered in connection with razing of crops, identification of big smugglers involved in cultivation, awareness drive and promotion of alternate crops.
The DGP asked the SPs to gather information about illegal properties of accused persons and kingpins of cases registered under NDPS Act and take the desirable action. “The police must coordinate with the concerned agencies including revenue, agriculture and forest for locating govt, raiyyat and the forest land engaged in poppy cultivation and act against those involved,” Mishra said at the meet.
The DGP said that police must carry out destruction on the intelligence provided by Narcotics Control Bureau. “Contacts should also be established with local village heads including mankis, mundas, mukhiyas and women committee members to detect areas where poppy cultivation is underway,” she added.
