Chatra: Two persons were killed after two trucks collided at Sanghri valley on the Chatra-Hazaribag road on Wednesday, police said.
The deceased were identified as driver Baiju Kumar of Kushalpur village in Bihar’s Buxar district and helper Sachin Kumar of Pauni village in Buxar.
Police and witnesses said that both trucks were carrying iron rods from Durgapur in Bengal to Bihar’s Buxar and Ballia in Uttar Pradesh. The accident occurred while the vehicles were descending the Sanghri valley stretch.
The brakes of the trailing truck allegedly failed, with the driver losing control and ramming into the truck ahead. The impact overturned the front vehicle, while the cabin of the trailing truck got mangled. Baiju and Sachin got trapped inside and died on the spot. With the help of a crane and locals, police carried out a rescue operation that lasted several hours.
Sadar police station officer in-charge Awadhesh Kumar Singh said, “The bodies were pulled out from the cabin and sent to Chatra Sadar hospital for postmortem examination. The damaged vehicles were later removed and traffic was restored.”
