Chatra: Two youths were killed after their motorcycle went out of control and slammed into a barricade put up near the Jabra checkpost on the Simaria-Bagra-Ranchi main road in Chatra district on Saturday night. The deceased were identified as Ganesh Bhuiyan, 18, and Basant Bhuiyan, 20, both residents of Dundua village.
Police said the two friends were returning home after purchasing items from the market when the accident occurred.
Simaria police station officer in-charge Suryapratap Singh said, “The injured were rushed to Simaria Referral Hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.”
The bodies were later sent to Chatra Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Singh said preliminary investigation suggests speeding behind the cause of the crash and added that neither of them was wearing a helmet.
Locals alleged the victims were under the influence of alcohol at that time and the collision caused grievous head injuries, leading to their death.
Following the accident, villagers gathered at the hospital and demanded strict road safety measures and monitoring of speeding vehicles.
