Chatra/Bokaro: Nisha Kumari, a security guard’s daughter, has emerged as district topper in Chatra by securing 97% in the Class X board examinations, whose results were declared by the
Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) on Thursday.
A resident of Kashi Mahua Tola in Potam village under Hedum panchayat of Lawalong block, Nisha’s achievement has brought immense pride and joy not just for her family but for the whole district, officials said.
Her father, Pramod Sahu, works as a night guard at the model school in block headquarters. He also sells vegetables to support the family. Despite limited resources, he ensured that his daughter’s education was not affected.
“Though I don’t earn much, we try to ensure that my daughter doesn’t face problems in pursuing her studies. Credit for her success goes to her hard work. We didn’t expect she would secure the highest marks in the whole district,” he said.
As soon as the news spread, a wave of happiness swept through the area. Family members, villagers and well-wishers gathered at her home on Thursday night to congratulate her.
Nisha credited her success to her parents, teachers and mentors. “I mostly studied on my own besides what was taught at the school. I want to become an engineer,” she said.
A similar success story has emerged from Bokaro too where the son of an electrician emerged as the district topper by securing 97.6%.
Sonu Kumar, a resident of Telo village and a student of Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, credited his success to the relentless struggles of his father, Bhuvneshwar Mahto.
Mahto runs a repair shop for electrical goods in the village while Sonu’s mother, Anita Devi, is a homemaker.
Sonu said he focused on studies, initially devoting 4-5 hours daily, which increased to nearly 8 hours during the final months. “For clearing doubts, I occasionally turned to online tutorials. I am happy with my performance.”
