RIMS Ranchi 2026 Roadmap: New ICU, Cancer Treatment, Infrastructure Upgrades Planned

Ranchi: New ICU buildings are planned at the trauma centre of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims as part of its roadmap outlined for 2026. The roadmap also aims to strengthen patient care, infrastructure, academic capacity, and administrative efficiency.

According to officials, the proposed expansion is also intended to enhance critical care capacity, improve emergency response, and support advanced treatment for severely injured and critically ill patients. Additionally, a pre-determined fund will be used to procure medicines, and the revenue generated from the sales will be reinvested into the same fund.

As part of its expansion of advanced medical services, Rims will also install linear accelerator machines for cancer treatment and radiotherapy. The institute will also enhance safety and utility infrastructure, including boundary walls, firefighting systems, and medical gas pipelines across the campus. Seats in MBBS, postgraduate, nursing, and super-speciality courses will also be increased to meet the growing demand for trained healthcare professionals.

Rims director Dr Raj Kumar said, “The institute will introduce a hospital revolving fund to ensure uninterrupted availability of medicines and surgical items. Under this mechanism, a pre-determined fund will be used to procure medicines, and the revenue generated from their sale will be reinvested into the same fund. This system is expected to guarantee a continuous supply of affordable medicines for patients while ensuring adequate stocks for hospital requirements.”

To strengthen campus security, a total of 1,136 CCTV cameras were installed. Moreover, 103 new posts, including doctors, nursing staff, and paramedical personnel, were created, particularly for the Regional Eye Institute.

The officials said service-related benefits were extended to the medical faculty and other staff. Recruitment and selection processes, agency appointments, and outsourcing of services in various departments were expedited, and recruitment for vacant posts in multiple departments will be undertaken in the coming phase.
