Ranchi Celebrates Year-End: Picnics Flood Popular Spots Ahead of New Year
Ranchi: The last Sunday of the year turned into a lively celebration across Ranchi as picnickers flocked the city’s popular outing spots, creating a vibrant, festive atmosphere ahead of the New Year. From water parks to hills, dams, and waterfalls, families, groups of friends, and youngsters were seen soaking in the year-end cheer with music, food, and fun activities.
For those unable to travel far, nearby attractions turned into major crowd-pullers. The aqua world carnival, located opposite Raj Bhavan, remained packed since morning, with long queues at entry points.
The carnival-style water park, featuring large slides, rain dance zones, and music arenas, offered a quick getaway for city residents. “We wanted something close by because of traffic and time. This was convenient and full of energy,” said Abhishek Kumar, a visitor from Doranda. Birsa Munda Fun Park also saw steady crowds, especially families with children enjoying rides and open spaces. Natural spots within the city limits, such as Kanke Dam, Dhurwa Dam, and Tagore Hill, attracted picnickers carrying home-cooked food, portable speakers, and mats. “The weather was perfect, and these places give a peaceful break without travelling too far,” said Rakesh Sahu, who visited Kanke Dam with his family.
Tourist destinations on the outskirts also remained busy. Jonha Falls, Dassam Falls, Hundru Falls, and Getalsud Dam saw visitors from Ranchi and neighbouring districts, while Patratu Valley recorded slow-moving traffic due to the surge of vehicles. Rock Garden, Birsa Zoological Park, and Nakshatra Van continued to draw a steady stream of visitors throughout the day.
Local vendors near picnic zones reported brisk business. “Year-end Sundays are the best. We sold snacks, tea, and toys non-stop,” said Sunita Devi, a vendor near Rock Garden.
