DALTONGANJ: A 12-year-old boy, named Amit Turi, lost his life, while his friend and accomplice Badal Bhuiyan (15) suffered 70% burn injuries when the fertiliser and seed shop they were burgling caught fire allegedly from a candle they used in the dark. The incident happened at Pakri village, 5km from the Balumath police station in Latehar district on Friday night. Their third accomplice, Sagar Turi (12), managed to escape unharmed, Latehar SP Anjani Anjan said on Saturday.

Anjan said, “The Balumath police reached the site and a fire fighting vehicle was called to control the blaze. The shop was completely gutted. We are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the break-in. Preliminary investigations suggest that one of the three thieves might have lighted a candle, subsequently leading to the fire.”

“Badal was taken to the community health centre, Balumath, from where he was transferred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims), Ranchi. Sagar is absconding since the incident,” he added.
