Man shot at in Jamadoba, police probe illegal iron trade angle
Dhanbad: A 36-year-old man was injured after unidentified assailants opened fire at him in the Jamadoba under Jorapokhar police station area of Dhanbad district during the early hours of Friday. The injured man has been identified as Ricky Singh, a resident of the locality. He is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital, where his condition is said to be critical.
According to information received, the incident took place around 4 am when Ricky Singh stepped out of his house to attend nature’s call. At that time, three unidentified attackers allegedly intercepted him and opened fire. One of the bullets hit Singh, leaving him seriously injured. The sound of gunfire created panic in the area, following which local residents rushed to the spot and shifted him to the hospital for treatment.
The victim’s wife has lodged a written complaint with the police regarding the incident. She alleged that Singh recently was involved in a dispute with some people over cutting and selling of iron wires lying near their residence. She claimed that the attack may have been carried out due to the ongoing conflict related to the illegal iron trade in the area.
Police have started an investigation into the matter. Sindri SDPO Prakash Chandra Mahto said that the police are examining all possible angles. He said that preliminary findings suggest rivalry between two groups allegedly linked to illegal iron trading.
The police officer further said that a used cartridge shell was recovered from the crime scene during the investigation. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused involved in the firing. “The exact reason behind the attack will become clear only after a thorough investigation,” the SDPO added.
