K A Gupta | TNNGumla: A case of child marriage was reported from Kocha village under Kisko police station limits in Lohardaga, where police and officials stopped the wedding and arrested the groom for violating legal provisions.“Immediately after the wedding rituals were completed, the groom, Lachhu Oraon, a resident of Brambe village under Mandar police station limits in Ranchi district, was taken into custody, while the minor bride was safely rescued and sent to a shelter home,” police said on Friday.OC of Kisko police station Manas Kumar and Kisko circle officer Ajay Kumar said that as soon as the team received information about child marriage, they rushed to the spot and stopped the ceremony.“We arrested the groom the same night after examining documents related to the girl’s age. It was confirmed that she was 16-years-old. The bride was rescued and sent to a shelter home’ for protection and counselling. Further investigation is on,” the OC said.On Thursday, a complaint was lodged under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 against both families and the tribal priest.
