Land Broker Stabbed to Death in Dumka: Land Dispute Suspected
Dumka: A local land broker, identified as Devraj Sarkar (40), was stabbed to death by a gang of assailants, in the Town Police Station area of Pakur district on Wednesday.Eyewitnesses said Devraj was returning home after celebrating Holi at around 3 pm when he stopped at a nearby shop to buy some items. As he stepped out and headed towards his house, the attackers, who appeared to be waiting for him, suddenly surrounded him, launched a frenzied knife attack, and fled after he fell to the ground.

Bleeding profusely, Devraj was rushed to Sonajhori-based Sadar Hospital by nearby residents, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.A police team, led by the officer-in-charge (OC) of Town Police Station, Anil Kumar Gupta, visited the spot and launched an investigation.Preliminary probes pointed to the involvement of about 8 to 10 suspects, with land disputes emerging as the prime motive.Devraj's father, Megh Nath Sarkar, while speaking to reporters at Sadar Hospital, said, "Devraj worked as a land broker and faced threats before over property rows. Someone even attacked our house earlier.”The deceased left behind two sons and a daughter."This is a clear case of premeditated murder. We're questioning the locals and trying to identify the culprits," the OC said.
