Khatal owners oppose relocation

RANCHI : Owners of khatals (cowsheds) are resisting the Ranchi Municipal Corporation’s (RMC) directive to relocate their businesses to Nagri and Garigaon, designated especially for all khatal to streamline operations and ensure better urban planning.

Khatal owners are voicing concerns over the proposed relocation. Many argued that their businesses have roots in the current locations and moving to could adversely impact their established customer base.

Owner of Pandol Khatal, Kokar, Pandol Kumar, said, “Setting up our business in the new area poses challenges. The transportation of milk will be Zcumbersome and expensive. Acquiring new customers is uncertain, and retaining our existing customer base is not guaranteed.”

As part of the Integrated Khatal Development initiative, khatals currently operating within the city will be relocated. Funds for this move will be sourced from the 15th Finance Commission. Following a survey, a detailed report will be submitted to the relevant department. On approval, the process of relocating the khatals will commence. The government’s plan to relocate slums outside the city, initially directed by Jharkhand high court in 2006, will also be enforced.

Voters relocating from central Delhi colonies asked to update address

The office of the chief electoral officer of Delhi has urged affected people to get their names included in the electoral roll of the area they now reside in. People are requested to fill up Form-8, which pertains to a change of address, and submit it before the last date. Several government colonies and residential buildings have been relocated due to redevelopment and removal of encroachment. Registered voters of these areas are informed to enroll themselves in the new place and delete their names from the previous place of residence.
