Infant girl tests +ve for H3N2 virus: Rims doc

Ranchi: Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) doctors on Friday evening claimed that in a first for Jharkhand, a nine-month-old baby girl from Ramgarh district tested positive for the H3N2 virus at the hospital. The doctors further claimed that the H3N2 virus causes bird blu.Rims public relations officer, Dr Rajiv Ranjan, said, “A nine-month-old girl, whose parents are residents of Sanwadih village in Ramgarh district, was admitted to the hospital’s paediatrics department on Thursday with high fever, cough and breathing trouble.”Dr Manoj Kumar, the head of the department of microbiology at the hospital, said samples collected from the infant were tested for both Covid-19 and swine flu viruses but they returned negative. “Another test was conducted to verify the virus infecting her and it turned out to be the H3N2 virus, which is a viral strain that causes bird flu. The infant has been isolated and is under medical observation,” Dr Kumar said.
