Dumka: Police have seized a truck carrying 8,640 pouches (180 ml) of illegal liquor near Dumka’s Mayurnath on Thursday evening. The truck driver and cleaner have managed to flee, police said on Friday. Officer-in-charge of Ramgarh police station, Manish Kumar, said that they received a tip-off that a consignment of illicit liquor was being smuggled into Bihar through the Ramgarh–Hansdiha route. Acting on the information, the police launched a vehicle-checking drive near Govindpur village on the Ramgarh–Dumka main road.
A goods-laden truck from the Guhiyajori side was signalled to stop. “After a brief chase, the driver and cleaner abandoned the vehicle near Mayurnath and fled," said the OC. Upon searching the truck, liquor was found hidden under a false platform. “Each pouch was marked Rs 120. The cartons also bore the label -- For Sale in Uttar Pradesh -- indicating possible interstate smuggling,” the OC added.
