Ranchi: The decks have finally been cleared for the appointment of Himachal Pradesh High Court Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan as the next chief justice of the Jharkhand high court.
Justice Chauhan would take over charges from present Jharkhand HC Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao, who would join the Tripura High Court.
In a notification issued by the Ministry of law and justice on Monday, Justice Chauhan has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand high court by the orders of the President.
Justice Chauhan's appointment will come into effect as soon as he assumes charge of his office, the notification further said.
In another notification, present Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao has been transferred to the Tripura High Court, while Tripura High Court Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh would join the Telangana High Court as its Chief Justice. Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh was earlier associated with the Jharkhand high court before he was made Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.
The Supreme Court collegium had recommended appointment of Justice Chauhan in its meeting on May 26.
Justice Chauhan is the second senior most judge in the Himachal Pradesh High Court. He finished his legal studies from Panjab University in Chandigarh after finishing his primary school education from Shimla.
He enrolled as an advocate in the Himachal Pradesh Bar Council in 1989 and practiced in all fields of law.
Justice Chauhan was elevated as an additional judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court in 2014, and later made permanent.Justice Chauhan also represented the govt of Himachal Pradesh as an advocate and took up various cases for the cause of welfare of the public and environmental issues.
Post elevation as a judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, Justice Chauhan has attended an international exchange programmes for the reforms, care and protection of children services held in Romania in 2019.
