Tyler Guyton vs Jalen Carter could decide Dallas Cowboys’ Super Bowl hopes

The Dallas Cowboys are after their first Super Bowl spot in about 30 years, but their path in the NFC East is as hard as it has been. One big roadblock is the Philadelphia Eagles, and more so, their star defensive tackle, Jalen Carter. Now in year two, Cowboys left tackle Tyler Guyton is taking on a key role in the team. His job is to keep quarterback Dak Prescott safe from some of the top threats in the league. Carter might just be the biggest hurdle. Jalen Carter, a top player from the Philadelphia Eagles, was second in the 2024 NFL season for most pressures among interior linemen last season, only behind Chris Jones from the Kansas City Chiefs, with 73 pressures, 21 hits on the quarterback, and 6.5 sacks in 19 games. Carter was a main part of the Philadelphia Eagles' defense when they went all out for the Super Bowl LIX title against the Kansas City Chiefs. His strong play and lasting power made him stay on the field a lot. In fact, he was almost always playing during the playoff run, only sitting out in the NFC Championship's big win.For Tyler Guyton, the 2025 season is indeed a big one. Last year was up and down. He played in 15 games and started 11, but gave up six sacks and allowed 26 pressures in 668 snaps.He had to face a bit of trouble with consistency and penalties, which led to him getting benched a couple of times. The offensive line as a whole had issues, especially when Dak Prescott got hurt and Cooper Rush had to step in. Protecting the quarterback became an issue.Guyton, however, showed promise. His athleticism and toughness stood out at times and the Cowboys still believe he has what it takes to grow into a solid starter with more time and training. This offseason, he took a different approach to get better. He added mixed martial arts to his workouts, focusing on hand movement and footwork -- things that could help him hold his own against top defenders.There’s no veteran backup behind him, so the Cowboys are putting a lot of trust in Guyton. Is he ready for when it matters most?
