Health camps to be held for traffic cops in Ranchi

Ranchi: With the daytime temperature nearing the 40-degree mark over the past few days, managing the traffic under the scorching sun has been a tough challenge for the traffic police personnel. Hence, the traffic police department is planning health camps for its personnel, police said.
SP (traffic) HB Jama said, “A medical camp for general health check-up would be held for our personnel in view of the extreme heat and dust being faced by them. Such camps would be held on regular basis in the future.” Though no policeman has reported sick yet, the traffic department, which is acutely short of manpower, cannot afford sickness of its personnel, he added. The SP stated that he has asked the Ranchi Municipal Corporation to build traffic booths. The department was also in touch with the non-government organisations for supplying accessories like water bottles and umbrellas for the traffic police personnel, he revealed.
Punyadaya Kumar, a traffic constable posted at the Kantatoli Chowk, said, “The weather is harsh for performing outdoor functions. We are dependent on oral rehydration system and raw mango juice throughout the day to avoid suffering from heat stroke. Drinking plenty of water is another method to save ourselves.” Another traffic policeman, Md Babar Hussain, who is fasting for Ramzaan, said, “I am drinking lots of water when I break the fast. I have to maintain abstinence for the rest of the day.”
The department also has a standing order for the traffic police personnel for such circumstances.
