Though the municipal elections are officially non-party based, major political parties are actively engaged in behind-the-scenes manoeuvring to ensure their candidates win.
The mayor’s seat is reserved for OBC-I category. Sources said some BJP leaders may still file nominations on Wednesday, the last date for filing papers.
“I will leave no stone unturned to improve the city on all fronts,” Gope said.
On the same day, journalist Arvind Rana, who is also associated with the RSS, filed his nomination for the mayoral post. Rana said his focus would be on beautification of the city, particularly its major chowks.
